VBC revenge collection

We are excited to announce the addition of a new luxury fabric from our favourite mill “Vitale Barberis Canonico”. VBC’s “REVENGE” Super 150’s range is made entirely from 16.1 micron wool, spun to a 104,000 yarn count. This means that from each kilo of wool we obtain 104 kilometres of yarn. Produced in just a handful of regions in Australia, the wool is the result of strict breeding regimes and meticulous preparation. The health of the flock is essential, with some wool growers even putting protective covers on the sheep to save them from environmental pollution. Only about 1,600 bales of this exclusive wool are offered for sale each season in Australia. Vitale Barberis Canonico is the largest buyer. The resulting fabrics tailor and wear superbly. The “R E V E N G E” range is a collection for the most discerning. The colours and styles are timelessly elegant and are ideal for finely tailored suits, blazers and trousers. Come down to our store to feel the exquisite fabric. Learn more about Vitale Barberis Canonico

Return of Waistcoat

So, why the sudden resurgence of the long-time unpopular, or certainly under used, waistcoat? For our wedding customers a three-piece clearly makes a lot of sense: something to add to the sense of occasion and make the groom stand out for the crowd, so naturally the ratio here is high. For our wedding customers we make a waistcoat for almost 1 in every 2 customers. This obviously skews the stats, but doesn’t account for the entire trend. The fact is that a waistcoat does look good – it’s smart, sharp and masculine, but fell from popularity in recent decades as the work place became more relaxed and casual. The resurgence seems to come from the fact that the work place isn’t quite so relaxed or casual in anymore – people are hanging on by their teeth and doing what they can to make sure they’re not the one under the chopping block. The trend is simple: when times are tough, people smarten up. The simple waistcoat, it appears, is what London’s businessmen are banking on to smarten up their image and make sure that it’s not their seat that is in danger.

We remember when one of the freelance local writer/photographer  made a sudden surprise visit to our store. He started taking pictures while we were busy consulting with our client. The writer touch upon the fact that Bangkok tailoring scene is full of scam. The so called tailors put up deals that is too good to be true; eg: 100$ for 1 suit.  To help avoid this, the city guide picked three tailors and highlighted us as the top tailor in Bangkok and Silom (street full of tailors). And guess what?  Mr. Ronnie, the head hancho and founder of Univeral Tailors were featured on the cover page. The writer captured him while crunching and totaling up the numbers. This is one of the first press release we had. Bespokeable contacted us as they wanted to ventured their online product customization into tailoring website. They did extensive reach and found us to be one of the most popular tailor in Bangkok, Thailand.  They also interviewed couple of other Bangkok tailors but as you can see our name comes first in the hierarchy. We shared our thoughts on the increasing need for a successful website displaying all the fabrics and styles for our customers. The fact is that it is has become a very important aspect of our business as our clients (90% being foreigner) cannot visit our flagship store year after after so they would like the option to use their saved measurement and purchase additional suits and shirts. The software is still under testing period. Once, the full version is out, we will sure adopt them in our site.

Bangkok 101 magazine

Bangkok 101 magazine is Bangkok’s popular monthly lifestyle and travel guide. The writer approached and got us talking about how we operate our business.  We then further elaborated and explain more on the tailoring scene in Bangkok. How the business has been affected by TUK TUK scams that try to rip off foreigner looking for affordable tailor made suits. Moreover, majority of tailor offering too good to be true deals like “1 suit 1 shirt for 120 USD. The write quoted our line “ You cannot compare a quality suit on the basis of price alone”..  To further add, clients often mention that we are expensive but one should compare our quality suit by apple to apple. Most tailors in Bangkok use cheap canvas, interlining, shoulder pads, lining; etc. If you compare our suits with similar one in Europe or USA, ours is more affordable. Lastly, we didn’t pay the magazine unlike the other three tailors that got the full coverage. But nevertheless, they listed us at the top above other tailors.

We got featured again by Bangkok.com. It seems like we are their favorite tailor. Well, we have been making suits for most of their staff now.  This time they decide to write up about 5 top tailors in Bangkok and we made it to the list expectedly. They did acknowledge the fact that the store is run by father and son duo (aka Ronnie and Raj). We are among the few that do not employ salesman. We deal with the clients directly; take the measurement and always there during the fitting process unlike many stores. But ofcourse he have helpers in store. We would love to believe that we are better than the other tailors in the list. The write appreciated the fact that we carry some finest wools from Italian top mills like Vitale Barberis, Zegna, Loro Piana etc. Bangkok Magazine is the ultimate Bangkok  city guide. Two magazine

We got featured in TWO MAGAZINE in their 2015 gift guide. They wrote us under the Great Basics praising our LINEN shirts which they claim is the perfect tailored shirt for travel. They quoted “The linen shirt is the embodiment of effortless style. Especially in the tropics, when the days are longer, and during the holidays, when sunset drinks rolls into dinner, the linen shirt seems to to take the lead. To celebrate the jet-setting months of winter, we suggest you pick up a versatile, linen shirt to pack with you wherever you go. Try Universal Tailors, who offer a beautiful collection of Japanese and Irish woven linen with  stunning, mother of pearl buttons”. Two Magazine quickly earned a reputation as a pioneering English-language publication for men in Southeast Asia. Its unique content mix was always at forefront of fashion and design trends, bringing readers the latest and greatest from the international luxury lifestyle sector. Mindful of an ever-evolving marketplace and conscious of the appeal that much of our content had across gender boundaries, Two Magazine realized that labeling ourselves a “men’s magazine” alienated many readers who could otherwise enjoy our offerings. Style, culture, and the search for unique and alternative perspectives are universal ideals that are valued by both our readers and our team, regardless of their gender.

Bangkok EXPAT life

We would believe we are the number 1 tailor among Bangkok expats. We boast a clientele of hundreds of expats living in Bangkok. Thus this triggered the leading expat magazine to feature a story on us specifically. Their title “BANGKOK’S BESPOKE TAILOR OF INTERNATIONAL RENOWN – UNIVERSAL TAILORS” is flattering. We completely agree with them. The magazine noticed the flattering reviews we get on Tripadvisor everyday. Those are genuine feedbacks from satisfied client. We must say we are challenged with fussy clients quite so often and it is not easy to satisfy them. We are tested time and time again and we bring our A game out to meet their needs. The writers also inform their readers the vast range of fabrics we carry, our workmanship of suits and our obsession for quality.  The magazine praised us for requiring every client to undergo atleast 3 fittings to ensure a fantastic fit. Contrary to most tailors turning around a suit within 24 hours with no or 1 fitting. We require atleast 3 working days to produce a masterpiece.
